Notchシグナルが成体神経新生、アストロサイトの分化状態に果たす役割を解明するだけでなく、成体神経新生システム維持のためなぜ神経幹細胞の性質を持つB,C細胞の2種が存在しなければならないのかその存在意義の解明、A細胞による神経新生のnegative feedback 機構におけるGABAとNotchシグナルの機能相違点の解明につながると考えられる。また、本研究によって存在するアストロサイトを神経幹細胞を経て神経細胞へ効率よく分化させる手法の開発が可能となり再生医療に貢献しうるものと考えられる。
