Prefectural Symbols

The prefectural symbol is an artistic rendering of the word “Shiga” in katakana. The space in the center represents Lake Biwa, and the wings and circular shape symbolize the prefecture’s harmonious development. It was chosen on May 3, 1957 through a public call for designs.
