Earthquake Information

Dear citizens of Shiga,

The magnitude 9.0 earthquake that occurred off the coast of the Japan’s Tohoku region on March 11th was the largest earthquake ever recorded in Japan. The massive tsunami that followed caused great damage to the area, and the situation has become increasingly serious with time.

Many people lost their lives, and the safety of many others has yet to be confirmed.I pray that the souls of all those lost may rest in peace, and I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to all survivors in this time of loss.

Since the earthquake, Shiga Prefecture has been working around the clock at gathering and providing information, and we will continue to provide support to the utmost extent of our ability.

Yukiko Kada
Governor of Shiga Prefecture
